ABOUT THE MEETING

The Georgia Department of Economic Development shows tourism is becoming a significant industry in Gwinnett County. For the first time ever, hospitality generated more than $1 billion in direct spending locally, created more than 11,000 local jobs and produced $246 million in worker income and paychecks and $72 million in tax revenue. A $57 billion industry for the state, tourism drives significant business growth and increased revenue, sustaining more than 425,000 jobs directly and indirectly, making up 10.2 percent of all jobs in the state, while showcasing our southern gems to 14 million visitors.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER

Kevin Langston is deputy commissioner of economic development for tourism at the Georgia Department of Economic Development (GDEcD), the state's lead governmental organization for promoting, marketing and supporting economic growth. Langston and his team work to position Georgia as a top leisure travel destination, overseeing business and product development, regional and international staff and visitor information centers.

Langston currently serves as chair of the National Council of State Tourism Directors, is a board member of Travel South USA and is the chair of their international committee. Langston also serves on the board of the Georgia Humanities Council, is an active member of the Georgia Economic Developers Association and is a Certified Economic Development Finance Professional (CEDFP).
