ABOUT THE EVENT:

Under the leadership of Mr. Wilbanks and the stewardship of the Gwinnett County Board of Education, Gwinnett County Public Schools is regarded as one of the most successful school districts in America, whose schools, students, staff, and programs win acclaim year after year for their many accomplishments.

To learn more about how Superintendent Wilbanks and GCPS are overcoming the challenges and raising the bar on student achievement, attend the September 17 General Membership Meeting and hear the annual State of the Schools Address.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER:

J. Alvin Wilbanks, CEO & Superintendent of Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS), is in his 19th year as head of the state's largest school district, which in 2014-2015 opened its doors to more than 172,700 students enrolled in 134 schools.

Under Wilbanks' leadership, GCPS has earned a reputation as one of the most successful school districts in the country. The Broad Foundation selected GCPS as one of the five finalists for the highly prestigious Broad Prize for Urban Education in 2009 and 2010. The district won the Broad Prize in 2010, distinguishing it as the best urban school district in the nation based on its overall performance and progress in reducing achievement gaps among ethnic groups and between low- and non-low-income students. In its first year to be eligible again, GCPS was named one of two finalists for the 2014 Broad Prize for Urban Education, to be awarded on September 22.

Gwinnett County Public Schools is committed to preparing all students for success in college, careers, and life. It faces significant challenges in pursuing that mission, including budget constraints; a student population growing in numbers, diversity, and poverty; pressures from state and federal mandates, and the need to continuously innovate and improve in the core business of teaching and learning. The district is creatively addressing those challenges, keeping steadfast its commitment to high student achievement as its schools educate and prepare Gwinnett's workforce of the future.
