J. Alvin Wilbanks, CEO & Superintendent of Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS), is in his 21st year as head of the state's largest school district, which will enroll a projected 178,000 students in its 139 schools this school year. With a workforce of roughly 23,000 employees, GCPS is the largest employer in Gwinnett County, and one of the largest in Georgia.

About the speaker
Under Wilbanks' leadership, GCPS has earned a reputation as one of the best school districts in the country. Its long-term commitment to preparing all students for success in college, careers and life led to the district being named winner of the nationally prestigious Broad Prize for Urban Education in 2010, and again in 2014. There have been numerous outstanding accomplishments during Wilbanks' tenure as the district continually strives for excellence, academically and operationally. But the district also faces challenges related to budget constraints; a student population growing in numbers, diversity, and poverty, and the need to continuously innovate and improve in its core business of teaching and learning. GCPS is creatively addressing those challenges, keeping steadfast its commitment to high student achievement as its schools educate and prepare Gwinnett's workforce of the future.
