This program will provide the opportunity to gain insight into what occurred during the legislative session and to network with Gwinnett's delegation.

About the Speakers

Senate President Pro Tempore David Shafer, a Republican, was first elected to the Georgia State Senate in 2002. He represents Senate District 48, which includes portions of Fulton and Gwinnett counties. Previously, Senator Shafer served as chairman of the Regulated Industries and Utilities Committee and as an Administration Floor Leader for Governor Sonny Perdue. In addition to his duties as Senate President Pro Tempore, Senator Shafer is also vice chair of the Senate Insurance and Labor Committee and a member of the Senate Appropriations, Health and Human Services and Reapportionment and Redistricting Committees.

He is an ex-officio member of the Senate Regulated Industries and Utilities and Rules Committees. Senator Shafer is a business owner, investor and has an active history in the community.

Charles P. Efstration, III (“Chuck”) represents House District 104, which includes Auburn, Buford, Dacula, Hoschton and Lawrenceville addresses in Gwinnett County. He has served as a member of the Georgia House of Representatives since 2013.

Representative Efstration attended the University of Georgia’s School of Public and International Affairs, where he received his bachelor’s degree in three years. He also earned a Juris Doctor degree from Mercer Law School in Macon where he was elected by his peers to serve as Chief Justice of the Honor Court. After graduating, he served in law enforcement as a Gwinnett County Assistant District Attorney.

He is active in the community as a member of the Rotary Club of Gwinnett County and a past president of both the Gwinnett Republican Party and the Gwinnett Bar Association. In 2016, Governor Nathan Deal appointed him to serve as a member of the Judicial Nominating Commission and the Criminal Justice Reform Council.
