Description of Presentation:

Threats to a workplace can come in many different forms and a proactive approach to workplace safety and security is quickly becoming a necessity in today's world. The tragic February 26 Kansas workplace shooting further raised the anxiety of employers, employees and OSHA about workplace violence. Numerous companies have hired consultants to perform Active Shooter Training. This is a good step but mass shootings are not the most common workplace violence situations. At this forum, we will discuss the importance of having key security measures in place, what to do if you experience violence in the workplace and solutions for a safer environment. Panelists will include an attorney, security provider and law enforcement.

Speaker(s) Bio:
Howard Mavity is a partner at Fisher & Philips Attorneys at Law in Atlanta. With his experience in transportation, logistics, construction, and industrial supply, Mavity works with his clients as a business partner, focusing on eliminating employee problems by using common sense management.

Rick Strawn, President and CEO of Paradigm Security Services, Inc., has earned national certification as a CPP (Certified Protection Professional). He retired from law enforcement in 1998 after 25+ years of service with the Atlanta Police Department. During those years, Rick worked in many varied assignments ranging from patrol to his retirement as Detective Sergeant and Day Commander over the White Collared Crimes Unit. Rick is an active member of the Gwinnett Chamber Chairman’s Club, and ASIS International (formerly known as the American Society for Industrial Security).

M.P.O. Danielle Bell has worked for the Gwinnett County Police Department for 11 years. She started her career in dispatch then graduated the 76th police academy in 2009. Her background includes Uniform Division for our East and Central Precincts as well as the Crime Prevention Officer for Central Precinct. Currently, she is assigned to Special Operations as the Crime Prevention Coordinator for the department.
